Alpine Beauty and Lakeside Tranquillity
Set at the south-western tip of Y-shaped Lake Como, the town of Como offers wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A funicular railway runs up to the village of Brunate from where you can see Switzerland on the opposite shore.
The peaceful location has long been a favourite with celebrities, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next door Broletto dates to the previous century, and even older are the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello, sitting on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style is the Casa del Fascio, built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighbouring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury lakefront hotels, town centre B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, which offers direct services to Milan.

Como city itself can be visited in a day, after that the best is to take the bus and visit the cities around the lake like Mennagio - from there, take the ferry (7€/person total) and go visit Bellagio and Varenna.
You can visit villas; such as Carlotta (just before Mennagio) or Olmo (in Como).
In total, a trip between 2 and 3 days (max) is perfect.

Beautiful scenery.
Beautiful scenery. Recommend taking a trip on the fernicular for the views and a meal / drinks in the Locanda Milano hotel while up there.
Plenty of restaurants & bars to choose from in the city. The eateries with a view of the Cathederal are obviously more expensive than others further afield but not necessarily any better fare.
I was expecting it to be eye wateringly expensive but was pleasantly surprised that it was comparable to London / Brighton prices.
Advise picking up a street map from tourist info as the narrow streets can look very similar!

Stunning location, recommend you get up early to get the first boat to other towns on the lake. You have no queues, similarly with the funicular. We got an early car up to Brunate. Came down at 1pm and the queue to go up stretched onto the street.
Easy to get to from Milan (1 hr train)

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with this accommodation. A few minutes before our arrival we received a call from Cascina Mirandola that there were no more rooms available for us. They had selected another hotel for us. There was no explanation or apology for this situation. The other hotel was very far away so we asked for another suggestion. We were assured that we would pay the same price as contractually agreed in the booking. As it was already evening, we drove to the suggested accommodation and stayed there overnight. The next morning we had to pay a much higher price for this overnight stay. The owner phoned Cascina Mirandola to clarify how to proceed. Casicina Mirandola promised to transfer the difference to us. After very slow communication by phone and email, we are still waiting for our money and an apology. Our calls are no longer answered. We feel cheated and cannot recommend Cascina Mirandola under any circumstances.

I must say, after everything I have heard about the beautiful Como, I was left disappointed. Maybe my expectations were a little to high but I didn't like it there. It is a cute town but nothing special. Doesn't feel Italian, if that's what you're looking for. Also, is it quite pricey. I will not be coming back here.

Breathtaking view of the lake and so many interesting places to visit. It was relaxing to simply be able to walk along the lake and be awed by the surrounding nature. It’s mesmerizing! I didn’t think I needed more time to spend in Como. I would have loved to stay longer to explore the many gems of these places.
But again, an opportunity to return in the near future.
My best friend was getting married at Lake Como and therefore, the bridal party all decided to book into the same hotel for convenience and enjoyment. There was 1, maybe 2, working plug sockets in the rooms (we were 3 females sharing a room) and so, made it very hard to get ready. The front desk staff was extremely rude and unhelpful, the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced whilst travelling. Any request seemed a lot of hassle and they were very abrupt and blunt with us.
The location was amazing, very close to Como Lago Nord train Station, supermarket, Cathedral and ferries. Highly recommend.
Our apartment was on the 4th floor and had a decent kitchen, very comfy bed, good shower and a fantastic restaurant below the apartments (we spent nearly 4 weeks in Italy and Restaurente Sociale had the best risotto out of everywhere that I tried. We only wish we had gone back more than once.
The hotel is in a brilliant location in Como. A short 5 min walk from the San Giovanni train station and only 2/3 minutes from the lake where you can get ferries to Bellagio etc. The hotel is also beside a lovely piazza which is nice for dinner/drinks but isn't too loud at night (our room was on the fourth floor). The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was good. I was happy I chose this hotel for our trip.
This is a private run hotel and the owner Kristina is an excellent host. She was very helpful and advised us on how to get around Lake Como. The bus stop is a few yards away and you can get a bus for 1.50 Euro to Como. The hotel itself is just a 10 minutes walk from Como Camerlata station. We had a family room, a bit tight for 4 adults but manageable. The room was cleaned in the morning, we stayed for 2 nights.
Silvia is such a nice host. She come herself to welcome us. She explained many things about the history of the house, things about Como.
The location is just 200m to the mainstream location. You can easily walk from the bus stop or train station.
The apartment is just renovated. Nice, clean and historic. I would rate it just as same as any 4 stars hotel.
The location was great. Everything from booking to staying was comfortable and easy. Isabella was a warm, friendly and professional host.
The hotel had a very cute kitchen with coffee and tea and milk, which was great.
The location is optimal. Very close to the Lago Como Station, close to the ferry ride, and the supermarket for some snacks!
The hotel is very well located at only 10 mn walking from the city center, the train station St Giovani, and the lake. The hotel staff is very professional, they provide a complete information about the city at the check-in.
The room was clean, well equipped and spacious.
I recommend this hotel for your stay in this splendid town of Como.
The hotel is very close to the lake and only 7 minutes walk to Como city center. The room was a bit old and vintage but I didn't mind it, the bed was comfortable and the toilet was spacious.
The room included a fridge, safe, bathroom amenities and a kettle with free drinks.
The staff was really helpful as well.
Location was perfect. You can walk to everything. The hotel is across the street from Lake Como. You just walk to everything. King size bed, very new modern bathroom, and very clean. Host left snacks and drinks in the room refrigerator for us. Nice touch. There is a lift to get you upstairs to your room.
Owner Elena met us at the hotel and was lovely and helpful
Room was modern meets old and very comfortable
Centrally located to close walking distant to ferry to explore lake Como and restaurants and retail shops in Como
Right next door to a Gelato Bar too !!
Lift was a good bonus
This was by far our favorite stay in Italy. Wonderful location in Como, lovely decor and apartment setup, clean, friendly hosts, and decent kitchen to cook in. The bed was comfortable, WIFI was great, loved the rain shower, and the bed was comfy. 10/10!
The hotel was perfect - a lovely large room, which was exceptionally clean and in a great position for the lake and the countless restaurants. We had a lovely couple of days and I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re in Como.
Staff was very friendly, polite and helpful. The suite was big, modern looking and clean. The hotel was very close (walking distance) from key spots in como such as the como lago train station, the ferry station and city center.
Como is just a beautiful place and this hotel is just a couple of minutes away from the centre of the town and the lake. The owners were very nice and helpful. The room was modern and spacious. I dont have much to complain.
